- James 1:2–4Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds,
 for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.
 And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
- James 1:5If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.
- James 1:12Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.
- James 3:13–18Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom.
 But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth.
 This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic.
 For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice.
 But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.
 And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
- Proverbs 3:5–7Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.
 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
 Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.
- Proverbs 9:10The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.
- James 1:19–22Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger;
 for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.
 Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.
 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
- James 1:6–8But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.
 For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord;
 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
